Steve Jobs by J-C Lattès
The paper : Primaprint 65g
The official biography of Steve Jobs, the only one authorised by the co-founder of Apple, was released in France on november 2nd, 2011. Published by Jean-Claude Lattès, the French adaptation of the story by walter Isaacson is printed on Primaprint 65 g/m2.
Born in san Francisco in 1955, an adopted child, growing up in the environment of silicon Valley, Steve Jobs entered the world of computing at the age of 19 by joining the “Homebrew computer club” where he became friends with Steve Wozniak. In 1976, the two steves founded Apple with a capital of 500 dollars and launched their first computer, the Apple I, sold for $666.66. The company with an apple logo was born and had all the ingredients for an American success story. Steve Jobs had evidently collaborated in the book but did not ask for any rights to see what had been written, nor even to read the book before publication. He did not set any limits; on the contrary, he encouraged his entourage to speak freely. Steve Jobs spoke about people that he had worked with or been in competition very frankly. His friends, enemies and colleagues mention his passions, demons and obsession with control which created his business vision and the inventions that he developed without stonewalling. Steve Jobs’ career is exemplary, a model in terms of innovation, character, business management and values.

To date, what is the circulation of the biography? The level of sales?
At the end of november 2011, the circulation reached 120.000 copies. We published another 10.000 copies in December. The sales then amounted to 100.000 copies.
How was the choice of paper made? Who decided on it?
I personally recommended Primaprint to our publisher. This biography contains many photos and illustrations which are integrated into the text and Primaprint seemed the best option to me to support this technical constraint. We are actually very satisfied with the printing and the quality of the reproductions. Given the fame of the author – who had to be published in a paper book - and the protagonist, it was also very important to have a quality work and from this point of view, Primaprint met our expectations.
What have you enjoyed most in your collaboration with Bolloré Thin Papers?
One of Bolloré Thin Papers’ strong points in terms of service has been the response with which the paper was able to be delivered to the printer, both for the initial circulation and for the reprints. This was essential in this case because – as you know – at the request of the American publisher Simon & Schuster, the release date was brought forward by a month: we would not have been able to ensure these deliveries without the response of the paper manufacturer and the printer.
Does the environmental aspect have a bearing on your paper selection method?
Indeed, our house has a principal of using papers made from natural, renewable, recyclable fibres made from wood from sustainably managed forests. Moreover, we expect our paper suppliers to be registered with a recognised environmental certification method. Bolloré Thin Papers being the first thin paper manufacturer to be FSC certified, this choice was obvious.
